Mapstr Alternative (2026): GeoTok vs Mapstr for Saving Restaurants From TikTok

Disclosure first: I build GeoTok. Everything about Mapstr on this page comes from Mapstr's own sources, mapstr.com, its "mapstr plus" FAQ, and its US App Store listing, as read in November 2026. Everything about GeoTok matches its App Store listing. Where Mapstr is the better app, I say so.

The short answer

Stay with Mapstr if you add most places by hand or from Google Maps, you want a free plan, you use Android or the web, or you share and merge maps with friends. Mapstr is a mature, general-purpose place saver, and for that job it is hard to beat.

Try GeoTok if your restaurant list really starts in your TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts feeds. GeoTok does one thing: you share a food video, it reads the caption, the spoken audio and the text on screen to find the restaurant, and after you review the suggestion the place lands on your map with the original video attached. It is iOS-only and paid.

Where Mapstr is better

It is free to start. Mapstr's FAQ says the free plan holds up to 300 addresses; after that, places you saved stay visible but adding new ones is blocked unless you subscribe to Mapstr Plus. GeoTok has no free plan at all. If you want a free Mapstr alternative, GeoTok is not it; Google Maps saved lists are the honest free answer.

It works everywhere. Mapstr runs on iOS, Android and the web. GeoTok is iOS-only.

Import and organizing. Mapstr imports Google Maps, CSV and KML lists, and has deep organizing: tags, colours, ratings, notes, photos, a visits journal and bulk editing on Plus. GeoTok's organizing is simpler.

Social maps. You can follow friends, chefs and creators on Mapstr and merge their maps into yours, and Mapstr publishes official maps from magazines and guides. GeoTok shares lists, but it is not a social network of maps.

Booking. Mapstr Plus can filter by table availability, and its site advertises booking a table. GeoTok sends you to Apple Maps or Google Maps for directions and stops there.

Where GeoTok is better

The video is the input, not an attachment. Most food recommendations now arrive as a 30-second clip where the restaurant's name is said out loud once, flashed on screen, or buried in the caption. GeoTok is built around that clip: it checks the caption, the audio and the on-screen text together, suggests the place, and you confirm it. You don't retype a name you half-heard.

The source stays on the pin. Months later you can open the pin and rewatch the exact video that made you save it, including what the creator said to order.

It is a food tool. GeoTok doesn't try to organize hotels, shops and museums. If your list is restaurants, cafés and bakeries from social video, everything in the app points at that.

You can check it before installing. This site publishes per-restaurant pages built from the same pipeline, for example in London and New York, so you can see what GeoTok identifies from real TikToks.

What GeoTok does not do

  • No Mapstr import. You can't move your Mapstr places into GeoTok. Keep Mapstr for the places you already have, or re-save the ones you care about.
  • No free plan, and a monthly cap. GeoTok Plus covers up to 300 processed video shares a month on the yearly plan and 50 on the monthly plan.
  • Not every video works. If a clip has no usable clue (no name in the caption, audio or on screen), GeoTok may need a correction from you or save nothing. It shows the status so you can check.

Other Mapstr alternatives

  • Google Maps saved lists. Free, on every platform, and already on your phone. No video saving and limited organizing.
  • Beli. For ranking restaurants you've already eaten at, not for saving ones you saw online. See Beli alternatives.
  • Stasht. A general saver for places, recipes, events and products from many apps. See GeoTok vs Stasht.
  • Plotline. See GeoTok vs Plotline.

How this comparison was made

Mapstr facts come from mapstr.com, Mapstr's "mapstr plus" FAQ and Mapstr's US App Store listing, read on 4 November 2026. Prices vary by country and Mapstr's App Store listing shows several monthly and yearly price points, so check the price in the app. GeoTok facts come from GeoTok's App Store listing for version 2.2.54. If anything here is out of date, the apps' own pages win.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Mapstr alternative for saving restaurants from TikTok?
